To live in the Maastricht Region

A Farewell Top 10 of Maastricht

28-09-2011 om 12:57 by Amanda Potter

I’ll be passing on the torch as the “To Live” blogger here at Maastricht Region, so I thought I’d leave you all with my top 10 places in Maastricht. It’s been a pleasure blogging for you all. You can follow my continued blogging adventures at http://maastrichtminutiae.com

1. Maastricht Caves: My number one favorite place to take people, the Maaastricht marl caves are a unique piece of history that you won’t find outside of Limburg.

2. Sashimi: Located just off the Vrijthof, Sashimi is my favorite place for sushi in Maastricht. All you can eat, delicious and under the watchful eye of a giant buddha.

3. St. Pietersburg: The big mountain on the edge of Maastricht, St. Pietersburg is a lovely place to walk your dog, go for a run, and enjoy a nice dinner at one of the cafes at its feet.

4. Stadspark: A lovely park with a mix of wooded and grassy spaces. Lots of water along the Jeker river and even a small animal park.

5. Coffeelovers: The best place to get an American(ish) cup of coffee in Maastricht. Coffeelovers makes a comfortable place to meet others or just sit and write. Their high tea is pretty good too.

6. Vrijthof: More cities in the world should have city squares. The Vrijthof is a classic example with lots of cafes in which to while away your day.

7. Selexyz Bookstore: Yes the one in the old church. This bookstore is a gorgeous environment for all those old fashioned paper books. Open on Sundays after noon.

8. Brusselsepoort Mall: The biggest convenience of my expat life is the mall at the Brusselsepoort. I do all my grocery shopping and lots of my other shopping there.

9. Bonnefanten Museum: This museum frequently has interesting special exhibitions and is the place to check out Limburg-centric art. They have lots of modern art and even a bit of classical.

10. John Mullins: Every city needs an Irish pub that doubles as an expat hangout.
