Bits and Bobs for Crafters

07-09-2011 om 12:00 by Amanda Potter

145While I’m rarely prolific, I like to imagine that I am a bit of a creative crafter. So on occasion I’ve gone out and purchased bits for origami, sewing, and upcycling projects. They don’t all get off the ground (ok, so most don’t), but I have discovered several nice shops to support my hobby. Here are a few of the places I frequent when I want to try something new.

Pipoos: Located around the corner from the VVV, Pipoos is a good location of various crafting bits particularly if you are a scrapbooker or knitter. They offer small courses occationally and are very good for children’s arts and crafts as well.

In ‘t Panhuis: While this is a party and souviner shop in the front, you can find plenty of fabric, ribbon, button and clothing patterns in the back. You can also get plenty of fabric craft tools behind the counter. I like to combine a trip to the Wednesday or Friday markets with a quick stop here to pick up a few extras. In ‘t Panhuis is on Markt square.

Wednesday & Friday Markets: From 8am to 4pm, a large potion of the local markets is turned over the fabric and sewing accessories for all sorts of project. This is a good opportunity to find deals on everything from sheers to apolstry.

Mattie’s Kringloopwinkel: This secondhand store has all the usual bric-a-brac you want to dig through, plus a small corner overflowing with abandoned projects and extra crafting bits. I’ve bought things here for everything from origami to leatherworking. The prices are excellent as well.
